Things to Do

Valley Falls State Park provides its visitors with a selection of activities including picnicking, fishing, game courts and hiking trails.

  • Hiking on 18 miles of hiking trails (suitable for all ages and abilities)
  • Sightseeing (remains of sawmill and grist mill are still present and the spectacular view of the Great Falls)
  • Fishing picnic shelter available for rental at Valley Falls
  • Picnic areas available with picnic tables and shelter rental
  • Playgrounds and a Volleyball area
  • Horseshoes pitching areas
  • Whitewater rafting is nearby
  • Parking, bathrooms, drinking fountain and picnic tables are available for the disabled

Hiking Trails

Tygart Valley River Trail - .2 mile
Mostly level with one steep incline

Rhododendron Trail - 3.2 miles
Moderately steep near end, otherwise relatively easy

Deer Trail - 2.1 miles
About 50% nearly level with modest up hill grade

Red Cardinal Trail - 2 miles
All down hill from park entrance.

Dogwood Trail - .8 mile
Steep from Rhododendron Trail, then leveling off

Wild Turkey Trail - 1.2 miles
Extremely steep from either end, otherwise follows near level ridge.

Red Fox Trail - .8 mile
Steep grade from Deer Trail

For your safety

Swimming and wading in the river is not permitted. Alcohol is also prohibited at Valley Falls (§58-31-2.21).
